Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2026. This policy covers how Thing.pub collects, uses, and protects your information.

What we collect

Thing.pub collects only what is necessary to operate the platform: your email address for account creation and communication, device fingerprint data for hardware locking, and reading interaction data (scroll position, dwell time, session events) to generate anonymized, aggregate manuscript analytics.

What we do not collect

We do not collect payment information beyond what a third-party payment processor handles directly. We do not track your activity outside of Thing.pub. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not collect demographic data beyond what you voluntarily add to your profile.

How analytics data is used

Reading interaction data is anonymized before it is surfaced to any dashboard. Authors see aggregated patterns—where readers paused, where they stopped—not individually identified behaviour. Raw session data is not accessible to authors, other members, or third parties.

Data sharing

Thing.pub does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for any commercial purpose. Data may be disclosed only where required by law, and you will be notified where legally permissible.

Data storage and security

Manuscripts are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. Account data is stored securely via Supabase infrastructure. We apply security best practices aligned with NIST 800-53 standards. No system is perfectly secure—if a breach occurs that affects your data, you will be informed promptly.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us directly. Account deletion removes your data from active systems. Anonymized aggregate analytics derived from your reading activity cannot be individually reversed or deleted as they contain no identifying information.

Cookies

Thing.pub uses only functional cookies necessary for session management and authentication. No third-party tracking or advertising cookies are used.

Changes to this policy

Any material changes to this policy will be communicated directly to members before taking effect. We do not make quiet updates.
